What started out as an accident has turned into a staple of tea drinking world-wide. This black tea has a smoky, hearty, and robust flavor. It is made with Chinese black tea that has been lightly smoked over pine fires. This tea is an adventure for the uninitiated. Pine smoked savory black tea.

This is a 2019 lot of Lapsang Souchong from the Wuyi Mountains of Fujian province. It’s smoked in a traditional multi-layered structure built for this purpose. The fuel is knotty pine (including roots) for maximum resin content to give this tea a sharp hint of pine and the tea has a long exposure to give maximum smoky character.

To brew: pour 8 ounces simmering water (185 degrees preferred) over one teaspoon of tea. Steep 4 to 5 minutes, strain and serve immediately.
